Manchester - Glossop/Hadfield services were worked by Class 506 units until the overhead wiring on the route was upgraded from 1500v DC to 25kV AC (despite this upgrade being deemed "impossible" for the entire Woodhead route). Following withdrawal 5 three car sets are seen outside Manchester Piccadilly; front to back they are sets 2, 3, 7, 5, 8 with each formation consisting of 5940x, 5950x, 5960x where 'x' corresponds to the set number.
