45144 "Royal Signals" waits patiently for a pair of repaired bogies. This locomotive had its final classified repair at Crewe Works.

High Speed Train power cars were all overhauled at Derby. The complete set would arrive at Derby Litchurch Lane (Carriage and Wagon Works) where the coaches were left then the two power cars would proceed to the Locomotive Works for their classified repair and any modifications that were required. The overhauled power cars would then return to 'Carriage Side' to collect their coaches before returning to their home region. In the view above 43120 is seen outside the HST paint shop.

A very unusual visitor in the form of 56042. The locomotive was fitted with experimental bogies and their removal was required by British Rail Research so that major modifications could be carried out. In this view 042 is being lowered onto the modified bogies.
