More Class 27 Action!!

Almost celebrating its Silver Jubilee 27001 is seen at Ardlui paired with 27056 whilst working the excellent 08:10 Edinburgh Waverley - Fort William advertised excursion (ADEX) of 28th June 1986. Following withdrawal from service the locomotive was purchased by the Class 27 Locomotive Group who have very ably kept it in good running order.

27004 restarts the 09:30 Dundee - Edinburgh Waverley service (2J08) away from Ladybank on 25th March 1986.

A couple of Class 27s were treated to a steel centre window (!) namely 27007 and 27008. Here 27007 displays the modification at Glasgow Queen Street as it backs on to the stock for the 20:38 service to Dundee. 5th June 1982.

Covering the digrams on the Edinburgh - Dundee services (nicknamed 'The Circuit') was usually carried out without any prior knowledge of what locomotives were actually working. Although booked for Class 27s larger Sulzers would often deputise. One 'move' was Edinburgh - Leuchars to make the next one back as it were. Here 27036 approaches the station on 26th June 1983.

Twelve Class 27s were equipped with electric train heating (ETH) when the type were employed on the arduous Edinburgh - Glasgow services with 'push & pull' operation being employed. The ETH examples were classified 27/2s whilst the twelve retaining the more traditional steam heating were 27/1s. To supply ETH a Deutz diesel generator was installed in the boiler compartment of the 27/2s resulting in additional bodyside grilles.

In the good old days at Glasgow Queen Street 27204 is seen having worked an empty stock train from Cowlairs, the 27 will bank the train out of the station. 26th March 1983.
